The honourable MP from Trivandrum, Dr Shashi Tharoor, delivered an insightful speech during the inauguration of the Value-Rooted Skill Development Programme for children in Kerala, emphasising the urgent need for educational reform.
In his address (in Malayalam), he highlighted the unsatisfactory learning levels in government schools, as revealed by the Annual Status of Education Report.
The ASER report has unveiled alarming facts regarding the skill levels of children aged 14-18. However, in order to enhance the statistics for this age group, they must receive the requisite training from a young age. This is where the Value Education Trust’s intervention stands out. It focuses on skill development for children aged 7-13, effectively preparing them for the future.
Dr Tharoor commended the Value Education Trust for its efforts. He emphasised that expanding this program to train government school teachers could have a transformative impact, benefiting not just 430 children (the number of children we’re serving now) but 43,000, potentially creating a new Kerala model of education.
We are deeply honoured to have Dr Tharoor endorse our mission, affirming the potential of our work to create lasting change.
