Shanti (name changed) and her husband (an unskilled daily-wage labourer) struggle to meet their family’s ends. Their daughter, Anju, is studying in grade 5 at a Govt.-aided school in Ernakulam, Kerala. They shared with us that their only hope is for Anju to get a good job and help the family.
However, after the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a severe decline in her academic performance. She scored an average of 38% in the first term exams securing only 36% in Maths, 33% in Science, 43% in Social Science and 40% in English. Her class teacher remarked that she was restless in class and careless in academic work.
Anju is enrolled in our value-rooted skill development project. After eight months of Abacus training, she is showing marked improvement in her studies, says Shanti. Her character is also changing for the better, she adds. Her class teacher says, “Anju has shown steady improvement in the second and third-term exams at school’.
According to research, compelling data proves that consistent Abacus practice in class and at home enhances a child’s overall learning process and generates genuine interest in the child to learn all subjects.
Anju scored 51% in the term two exams and improved it to 69% in the term three exams. She improved her scores to 76% in Math, 60% in Science, 67% in Social Science and 72% in English. Anju has another 12 months of training to go. We are sure she will continue steadily improving in academics and character.
