At Value Education Trust, we are on a mission to address a pressing problem that hinders the growth and potential of children aged 10 to 13 from socially and economically disadvantaged families in Kerala.
The absence of developmentally appropriate proficiency levels in these children limits their access to education beyond the higher secondary level, restricting their opportunities for personal growth, livelihood, and responsible societal contribution. But together, we can change this narrative!
Let’s shed light on the facts: According to the 2022 ASER report, a staggering 64.5% of children in Kerala attend government or government-aided schools. This report raises alarming concerns, revealing that only 26.8% of grade 5 students can divide a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number. Shockingly, 55.7% of grade 8 students struggle with this fundamental skill.
The National Achievement Survey 2021, which evaluated 13,449 grade 5 children in 529 schools in Kerala, found that 55% of children cannot estimate and verify mathematical operations using standard algorithms. The statistics for other subjects are equally alarming, with a significant percentage of children struggling to read, comprehend, and understand essential concepts.
The Value Education Trust’s four-year project is designed to transform the lives of children, empowering them with knowledge, skills, and confidence.
