Since 2021, the Value Education Trust has been on a mission to uplift marginalised children in Kerala, India. Our commitment extends beyond mere education; it encompasses character formation, resilience, and igniting the potential within each child.
In June 2023, we partnered with five government-aided schools across three districts of Kerala to support 150 grade 5 children over a four-year program. These young minds, often facing socio-economic challenges, deserve every opportunity to thrive.
After ten months of training, we sought feedback from key stakeholders—parents, class teachers, and math teachers—regarding the improvement in the children’s numeracy skills.
The findings were heartening. The children’s numeracy skills have improved, concentration levels have heightened, and character development has blossomed.
However, amidst triumphs, poignant challenges emerged. Some children still need help with issues like lack of concentration and poor communication skills. This highlights the importance of tailored support and interventions to ensure every child thrives.
The school teachers have validated the efficacy of our program. They acknowledge improvements in children’s academic performance, concentration, and interest in learning, attributing these positive changes to their participation in our program. Yet, they also acknowledge areas for growth, emphasising the importance of consistent practice.
We can’t underestimate the role parents play in their child’s success. Active parental involvement is a game-changer, with parents expressing gratitude for the positive changes they’ve seen in their children.
The overarching trend of improvement is undeniable! Children from various socio-economic backgrounds are reaping the benefits, showcasing the program’s inclusive nature.
