Her mother told us:
“In school, she would rarely speak. She avoided eye contact and kept to herself…”
Yet last month, she volunteered to audition to anchor a local community event in her village—and was selected.
She went on to host it with the confidence her family had never seen before.
Alanna is one of 14 children we worked with at EmpowerEd Foundation through Year 1 of the four-year BLAZE program.
Year 1 focuses on communication.
This transformation is not accidental. It is designed.
These children have already completed two years of EmpowerEd Foundation’s SMARTlearner program, which has significantly strengthened their learning capacities.
Year 1 of Blaze turns that foundation into voice.
And this shift was most evident at the Speakathon, our year-end speaking event, where the children spoke in front of their parents, school leadership, and invited guests.
All 14 took the stage and spoke.
Not perfectly—but without giving up. Even when they paused, they came back and finished.
The children also wrote, developed, and performed their own skit—from theme and script to choreography—but what stood out throughout the session was this:
Every child chose to stand up and speak.
One note from a student simply said:
“Now I am not afraid to speak in front of others.”
In fact, the most powerful validation came from the Headmistress, who had watched these children over the years.
“I have never seen them speak like this before.”
She shared that while she had seen these sessions week after week, it was only at this event that she understood their impact.
We believe that when a child finds their voice, their future changes.
We are now:
Continuing Year 2 for this cohort (starting in June 2026)
Preparing to expand to 100 children across 3 schools in 2027
This is a scalable model, and we are building partnerships to take this forward.
