A recent survey reveals compelling data about the educational landscape in Kerala!
According to ‘ASER 2023 Beyond Basics,’ 6.6% of youths aged 14 to 18 are not enrolled in schools or colleges. What’s noteworthy is the significant rise in percentages from 0.5% in the 14-16 age group to 18.6% in the 17-18 age group.
The survey, conducted by the civil society organisation Pratham, found significant learning gaps among teenagers in rural India. In Kerala, where the survey covered 1,225 students, digital awareness stands out, with 99.5% owning smartphones. However, only 85% use them for education-related activities.
In the 14-16 age group in the state, 15.5% of youths could not read a Class II textbook fluently in the regional language. Nationally, 25% in the 14-18 age group could not read a Class II textbook fluently.
Given the recent survey findings, the programs initiated by the Value Education Trust assume crucial importance in addressing educational disparities in Kerala. VET’s programs not only fill immediate learning gaps but also propel marginalised children towards a future defined by effective education, lifelong growth, and responsible citizenship.Read more at https://lnkd.in/gN-jWeSg
