From the remote areas of Anthiyoorkonam in Trivandrum District to the coastal community of Kumbalangi in Ernakulam district, children from marginalised communities face immense challenges—financial hardship, broken families, and a lack of parental support. They start their educational journey at a disadvantage, with many coming from families where parents work as daily wage labourers or unskilled workers.
Our observations across the schools we work in reveal severe challenges: children struggling with concentration, memory issues, and basic academic skills. Despite the best efforts of dedicated teachers who offer remedial classes and extracurricular activities, they face constraints due to limited time and resources. Parents, often uneducated and unaware of the importance of academic support, often send their children to tuition centres that provide little real help.
The impact of these challenges is profound. Many children lack basic academic skills, struggle with independent learning, and face significant hurdles in subjects like Maths and Science. They have limited career awareness and role models, making it hard for them to envision a path beyond immediate survival.
Yet, amidst these challenges, there is hope. Our work with these schools shows how dedicated interventions can transform lives. By addressing the educational gaps and providing holistic support, we help bridge these gaps and nurture every child’s potential. Through focused initiatives and support, we are turning classrooms into vibrant spaces where children develop strong study habits, vibrant personalities, and a sense of direction for their futures. By empowering them with essential skills and confidence, we are helping them rise above their circumstances and build a brighter future.
