Value Education Trust’s innovative educational program targets marginalised children in Kerala aged 10 to 13, blending numeracy skills with comprehensive life skills training. Our program employs Abacus and Vedic Math to bridge critical gaps in numeracy, ensuring that children develop strong mathematical foundations. Complementing these technical skills, the program includes life skills training aimed at nurturing well-rounded personalities.

A key highlight of our approach is its emphasis on character and personal development. Throughout the past 10 months, our program has been instrumental in introducing children to a range of impactful topics. Teachers have diligently helped children cultivate resilience, determination, and consistency. Under their guidance, children have learned to navigate obstacles better and set ambitious goals, all while fostering a growth mindset. They have embraced lessons on duty consciousness, effective communication, respect, passion, self-care, and self-esteem. With the remaining three years in the program, the children are poised to refine these skills further and also acquire new ones.

It gave me great joy to read what Anavadhya, a sixth-grader studying at a government-funded school in Ernakulam District, wrote in her journal. I am sure her words will inspire you, too.

Here’s what she wrote:

  • 🌟 ” Like Naga Naresh, I will work hard in my studies and aim to do my best.”
  • 💡 “I will study diligently to achieve my goals, following Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s example.”
  • 🌱 “I will make sure to study regularly and take care of my family, just like the fallow deer.”
  • ⚡️ “I will face my fears bravely and become more confident as Michael Phelps did.”
  • 💖 “I will show love and kindness to my family, like Sweety, the honeybee.”
  • 🔍 “I will pay attention in class, tell the truth, and study hard, just as the wise man in the story did.”
  • 🗨️ “I will talk confidently and make friends easily.”
  • 🤝 “I will be kind to everyone and treat them equally.”
  • 🌟 “I will be good to everyone, just as Rajkumar Singh was.”
  • 🌿 “I will take care of myself and avoid doing anything harmful to my body.”
  • 👍 “Like Dhruvan, I will make positive choices and not make fun of others.”

These heartfelt words of Anavadhya continue to resonate deeply within my heart. Her dedication to growth, kindness, and learning serves as a powerful reminder of the potential within every child.
