Shalini’s inspirational journey demonstrates the transformative power of quality education and personal guidance. Hailing from Ernakulam, Kerala, her parents work hard to support the family with limited financial resources. Her father works as a hospital cleaning staff member, while her mother is a salesperson in a small grocery store.
Currently in the sixth grade at a government-aided school in Ernakulam, Shalini benefits from free education and daily meals. However, her ambitions reach far beyond the classroom, as she aspires to become a doctor and dedicates herself to her studies.
Yet, she faced difficulties in achieving high marks in Math and Science. In her fifth-grade term 1 exams, she scored only 53% in Science and 76% in Math. Financial constraints prevented her parents from providing additional tutoring for her.
In August 2022, Shalini joined the skill development program offered by the Value Education Trust. After a year of training, her academic performance experienced a remarkable turnaround. Her Science score improved to 78%, while her Math score surged to 93%. Her overall average score across all subjects reached an outstanding 88%.
With newfound confidence, Shalini proudly states, “I am now one of the first students to confidently answer questions posed by my Maths teacher, thanks to my Abacus teacher from Value Education Trust. And the character education sessions have instilled in me the invaluable virtue of self-belief.”
Her Maths teacher remembers Shalini’s proactive leadership, as she initiated a project for the Math exhibition at school, even when initially excluded from the team. Their team’s success attests to Shalini’s newfound self-confidence.
Shalini’s journey exemplifies the boundless potential that education and consistent support can unlock. She, along with her peers, now stands poised for success, with promising futures ahead.
